I have been a doula for three years now, and I have had the honor of sharing the birth process with over 150 women. While the majority of my experience have been hospital births through my position at St. Anthony's North, I am looking forward to expanding my private doula practice to include women who choose home and birth center births as well.
My overarching philosophy is that the miracle of birth is as unique and different as we are unique and different as human beings. My job as a doula is to provide unwavering, nonjudgmental physical, emotional and informational support to the birthing mother and her support person(s). I have seen many different birth experiences: natural childbirth, different forms of medications and interventions, VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean), and Cesarean. From my experience, the kind of birth a woman had did not determine whether she felt it was an empowered by the experience, but rather it was her approach to birth and the people who supported her through the challenges that arose.
As a Doula, I believe it is important that mamas know their options (whatever the circumstances) voice their preferences and feel empowered and in control of their birth experience.
There is undoubtedly an over-abundance of information, advertising, controversy, websites, apps and unhelpful advice out there and I know that it can be overwhelming. My certification in CAPPA means that I am trained on evidence-based practices. I continually connect with other birth professions for ongoing training, and stay current on the literature so that I can best direct my clients to the best information available.
Some of the services I provide include massage, acupressure, hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, position changes and support, coaching, visualization, relaxation and breastfeeding support.
I am originally from Oregon but I have lived in Colorado for 6 years now. Besides working as a Doula I am also pursuing my Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health.
